Jep and Dep – Confide in Me
Starting off with a cover for this edition rehacer, a cover of Australia’s still revered but long since relevant Kylie Minogue. I’d never heard the original Confide in Me and now that I’ve heard Jep and Dep’s version I don’t really want to, I’d prefer to keep this in my mind as spectacular song in its own right. The female vocals in this one are utterly mesmerising, while they are without a doubt the star of the show, the masculine voice is really interesting and complements nicely. One thing about this song is that Darren’s production is flawless, from the build up in the background and the little sounds along the way to his own solo verse at the end. Had to listen to this one more than a few times, you should too.
Battlehounds – Sleight of Hand (BottleRockets Remix)
This remix is very good and very surprising at that. It’s not surprising because we didn’t know BottleRockets was good, but more because it’s very different from what we usually see from him. I really dug the original track in all it’s slacker rock glory but this really takes it to the next level, turning it into a really cool Australiana meets Brian May vibe over a rollicking beat and some neat low end.
Grizzly Bear – Will Calls (Diplo Remix)
I know what you’re thinking because I thought the same thing at first, “Grizzly Bear and Diplo? Really? That must be the weirdest thing ever.” And it pretty much is. But I rate it. Diplo knows what he’s doing in chopping into diploesque vocal samples over a slick beat with some solid synths.

The Gaslight Anthem – I Do Not Hook Up
Half of youtube is full of Brian Fallon and The Gaslight Anthem playing covers, and they are all stunning thanks to his aching voice. Most of said covers are of predictable choices from Tom Petty, Springsteen, Foo Fighters, etc but this cover is probably my favorite cover they’ve done, the Kylie cover at the top of the page made me think back to this. It really shows that if done the right way and by the right person, songs you hate can melt your heart.
The XX – VCR (Four Tet Remix)
I love the way that Four Tet’s beats seem like he’s not even trying and with the vibe of a band like The XX to play with, the results are worth revisiting. He really sounds like he’s having a lot of fun jamming out while keeping a relaxed groove so as not to get too far removed from the nature of The XX.
